WSAG Meetup #8

Join us for the eighth Warsaw Software Architecture Group meetup at Circle K Business Centre! Talks on AI agents from a cybersecurity perspective, why not to like DORA Metrics (even if you compute them yourself), and lessons from microfrontends in production.

Circle K Business Centre, Puławska 145

About This Event

Join us for the eighth WSAG meetup, once again at Circle K Business Centre! Three talks await you: Dzianis (Denis) Hlukhau will look at AI agents from a cybersecurity perspective, Krzysztof Hałasa will explain why he doesn't like DORA Metrics (even though he computes them himself), and Tomasz Ducin will share lessons from microfrontends in production.

This is a great opportunity to meet fellow software architects, share knowledge, and continue building our local architecture community.

Agenda

  1. 18:00
    Dzianis (Denis) Hlukhau

AI Agents from a Cybersecurity Perspective

    Dzianis (Denis) Hlukhau

    in Polish40 min

We'll look at how artificial intelligence, and agents in particular, are integrated into an existing security architecture using AWS as an example, and we'll run a threat modelling exercise for a FinOps agent.

  2. 18:50
    Krzysztof Hałasa

Why I Don't Like DORA Metrics (Even Though I Compute Them Myself)

    Krzysztof Hałasa

    in Polish40 min

The team deploys several times a day and its change failure rate is textbook. The IT director asks how much the last feature cost and whether a developer paid 30k PLN delivers twice as much as one paid 15k. The dashboard has no answer. Sound familiar?

I'll start with an overview: DORA, SPACE, Flow Metrics and others that, in the AI era, grow on their own. For each method I'll show what it reveals, what it doesn't, and why none of them is perfect.

Then a case from a large insurer. The IT director had a hunch that two years earlier the organisation had worked better. Three simple metrics confirmed it. They also showed what a change of operating model did to delivery, and what other, non-obvious conclusions came out of that experience.

Finally, I'll show a working model in which the usefulness of a single person in an organisation can be measured - contrary to what Kent Beck and Gergely Orosz claim. Plus a teaser of an algorithm that unambiguously evaluates the whole team (and answers the question of whether AI helped).

  3. 19:40
    Tomasz Ducin

When MicroFrontends go wrong: lessons from production

    Tomasz Ducin

    in Polish40 min

Microfrontend (MFE) architecture is meant to tackle very specific challenges - and, contrary to appearances, it is more about how teams organise their work than about the frontend code itself. It is also a rather heterogeneous architecture, and the sheer number of options has led more than one team to a decision that later turned out to be... wrong. On top of that, MFEs share some traits with microservices, yet there are significant differences between them - in particular those stemming from a different runtime environment.

In this talk we'll look at designing, deploying, running and organising multi-team work around MFE architecture - everything related to: modularity, state management, horizontal and vertical splits, DevOps practices, team topologies and applying strategic DDD.

We'll analyse real-world cases of both successes and failures of microfrontends, building a solid understanding of the trade-offs behind them. Along the way we'll bust a few myths that have grown around this architecture as a result of misunderstanding the concept and... failed implementations.

  4. 20:30

    Closing & Networking

    Final Q&A and networking
